VACATION IS A MINDSET

Isn't it crazy to think of vacation in this way? That it’s not just a destination or a trip, but also an approach to live a better and more fulfilling life. During quarantine I watched a sermon that shifted my perspective on vacations.  The pastor said something along the lines of “live your life with a vacation mindset..  laugh, sing, achieve, fail, win, lose. Our time here is temporary. Covid made us realize how precious life is and how our priorities need to shift. No more living in fear, but living with a purpose.”

Oasis Del Mar focuses on this idea of living your life with a vacation mindset because during a vacation you are the best version of yourself. You wear your best outfits, meet new people, and spend time reconnecting with nature. You allow things to unfold organically, you go with the flow and unplug and give yourself time with your thoughts. You are present and focus on the people around you. You move differently, you let go of routines and make room for spontaneity! You are adventurous and dare to try new things you wouldn’t normally do. Time is less important, yet valuable. Excitement and joy overpower the feelings of stress, worry and fear. You are truly enjoying the journey.

So how should you keep your vacation mentality after your vacation is over?

Sleep in on a weekday, find time to unplug by meditating, reflecting, and journaling, be adventurous and try new things to do in your own community, stay connected with nature by hiking, walking, or going for a run at the park. Be present by multi-tasking less and taking one step at a time. Go with the flow, let go of routines and instead choose what to do and when to do it. Allow surprises in your life and be grateful for them! Explore new places by choosing to walk somewhere instead of using your car. Don’t wait until Friday or the weekend to do that thing you’ve been wanting to do, today is the best day for an adventure!
